Fire and ice are incompatible, Rion thought some 10 years ago when Barkhorn first forced him to work with Celis. Rion was angry, found logical reasons to disagree with the assigned partnership, and did not hide his displeasure. It went like this. Fire is hot, burning, uncontrolled. Fire blunts the effectiveness of ice.
But also, fire is warm. Rion learned this later. He understood this the more he looked at those red eyes, saw that wide grin, heard that hearty laugh.
Her fire compliments his ice very well, actually. Surprisingly well.
(Barkhorn had given Rion a knowing look back then, just before he had departed. Perhaps he knew what would begin to blossom inside of Rion’s heart, and took pity on the wait Rion would have to endure, that he still endures…)
Rion isn’t exactly a cold person. Not even as a kid was he frigid or closed-off socially. He just always had an affinity towards the cold. To feeling in control, to tamping down on the heat, to pierce instead of burn. His anger manifests into arctic ice.
His love, too.
With sharp blue eyes, Rion is always watching. Because if anyone ever comes close to hurting Celis, well…
