Short summary: Olga’s memory of Dana keeps her strong in a world of snow.
It’s so, so cold. Olga shivers. She’s not sure if she can properly think. Everywhere there is snow falling, covering the ground, hiding the plants if they haven’t yet wilted away. The way the snow blankets the land makes it seem like the world is being erased by it, fading away…
In this moment Olga pushes extra hard to think. She thinks of pale blue. She thinks of light skin. She thinks of the one she loves, the one she cares about the most, the one who is fighting for everyone, even if they have turned on her.
Yes Dana had a noticeably smaller size, a noticeably paler skin. It was something the other maiden candidates once joked about, the unusual tomboy that played around outside all the time yet somehow escaped the touch of the sun.
But Dana is nothing like the paleness that surrounds Olga now, this snow that is everywhere, white and cold. Dana is its total opposite: bright and warm, solid and supportive. If a bit paler now, if a bit weaker, it doesn’t matter; she’s always a pillar for Olga. Olga outwardly looks like she’s strong but inside she’s not. She might be falling through the snow, collapsed on her knees, if she didn’t think about Dana.
Because if Dana is continuing to fight, Olga will too. She’ll push forward, step into the snow, body upright. Forward, forward… Even if her body may be defeated, her spirit will live on. It will find Dana, surely…
