It’s so quiet right now.
Even with rain clouds obscuring the sun, Yoh knows it’s sometime between sunset and nighttime. He sensed it when his stomach growled, signaling the end of the workday. Cooking adds sound, but the sounds are too simple, predictable. The knife hits the board with a sharp chop. The oil fries the vegetables with a mix of pops and crackles. The rain hits the windows with a steady pitter-patter.
There is no unexpected phone buzzing. There is no door opening. There are no incoming footsteps. There is no voice calling out.
…It’s too quiet right now.

It’s so cold right now.
It doesn’t make sense, being the middle of the muggy Kanto summer, with the rain continuing to fall, but there’s something that has been not right for days. Yoh wakes up too early and doesn’t even need to glance at his phone to know the time. It’s the quietest time of the 24-hour day, that time between night and day where even the night owls are asleep.
Something is missing, but it’s not his blanket, sheets, or clothes. Something should have happened but it didn’t? Yoh doesn’t even know, just.
…It’s too cold right now.

It’s so loud right now.
Something inside him built up over the past few days, something that he didn’t understand. It just takes an offhand comment from Man-san for him to finally see.
He is in the twilight. The twilight of what, he doesn’t know how to properly say. But the way he looks at her. But the way he smiles at her. But the way he talks to her.
Yoh hates this, hates the voices in his head. The only thing he can think of to drown it out is to drink himself drunk.
…It’s too loud right now.
