“She’s a strong girl.” Nagisa squeezes Tomoya’s hands. “After all, she is your child.”
“Because she’s your child,” Tomoya retorts. Which is why he is so worried… How long was Ushio hiding her symptoms before they were noticed? Just so she wouldn’t cause trouble?
“I’ll give her a scolding when she wakes up,” Tomoya grumbles as Nagisa lets go of his hands. “She shouldn’t hold it in. She should rest when she needs to rest.” He looks over at Nagisa, leaving the rest unsaid.
Nagisa laughs softly. “She’ll be so happy to see you when you get home from work. Properly.” She pushes Tomoya back gently. “I have the rest of my shift off, so you can go back, dear.” When Tomoya doesn’t move, she adds, “Because you still have work to do, right?”
Tomoya sighs. “Fine. But I’ll buy something on the way home for Ushio.” Something sweet is implied.
Nagisa smiles. “That sounds lovely. It’ll be more motivating than a scolding I’m sure.” She gives Tomoya a quick kiss to the cheek. “Now, take care and let everyone know things will be fine.”
Tomoya nods. “I’ll be back soon, Nagisa, Ushio.”
He leaves the apartment with a calm, steady heart. Of course he is still worried about Ushio, but over the years he’s come to trust Nagisa. If Nagisa declares everything will be fine, then it will be alright.
Because the woman he loves is always right.
