Short summary: Marie thought she might practice English over in London, but not with Ryota stepping in first…
When Ryota asked her to come with him on his London trip, Marie thought it might be a good opportunity not only to see a little into his life during the years he was over there but to practice using her English. She was able to achieve the first goal, slightly (apparently Ryota did not actually live in the big city, but he had spent time visiting it before), but the second goal was, well…
Marie thought she understood English well enough; she had scored well in the tests at school. She was able to read the signs, brochures, and placards for the most part. But how they talk, well…
It didn’t help that Ryota immediately stepped in to talk at every opportunity with the bus drivers, the salesclerks, even the cleaning staff. Marie found herself sticking to his side, feeling almost more doll than human, until Ryota turned and quietly explained what just transpired.
Then she became a rather flushed human, for Ryota would tell her just how lovely everyone thought she was. To the world they looked like an ideal couple, so sweet and very much in love.
Until one time when she noticed Ryota’s expression scrunch up in irritation.
“She’s my fiancée.”
The way he stated that so loud and clear shook Marie, making her cling onto Ryota’s arm.
“Oh. My apologies.”
The young man bowed, turned around and walked away very quickly. Marie wondered if something bad happened, but before she could ask, Ryota hugged her tightly.
“You’re mine.”
Marie nodded, just before Ryota tilted her chin up and emphasized his words with a searing kiss. She kissed him back, even if she wasn’t sure it was okay to do so in public in this country. It would be considered rude in Japan, but Ryota normally would not raise his voice like that, so…
She would find that out later. Right now it was most important to understand Ryota’s words, more than some bit of English.
