Short summary: There are prairies to explore. Ei takes on the task to survey it. Iori decides to come too.
They had learned about it in school. Lands that are predominantly grass. The word: prairies.
But actually seeing this with their own eyes was a different experience. The endless waves of grass swaying in the wind made a mesmerizing sight for those who only know of the city (or rather, a simulated city, an imagined reality).
Actually traversing through the prairies… Well, Ei had agreed to take his motorbike out and do a land survey. Their probes had indicated it was safe but they decided it would be good if one of them actually went out and took samples themselves. Experienced it themselves. Curiosity was overwhelming. Was this vast grassy green space really as endless as it appeared? Or was is just an illusion, because their eyes only understood the confines of a 30 km world?
Iori decided to go with Ei. Ei hadn’t asked but she insisted that she come. He figured it would be boring and there was plenty more excitement to still be had at their base.
“It’s not the beach though,” Ei said as he zipped up his bag. He was planning to only go for two days so he only had one change of clothes, a few rations, and a small foldable. Sure there was still space for more items in the side bags but…
“I don’t care. I just want to be with you,” Iori replied.
She had that determined look in her eyes, the look that Ei could never say no to. And even if he could say no, he would never mean it. Because there was no reason to deny her wish. Because frankly he was happy to spend even more time with her.
Even if it would just be the whirr of the motorcycle, the buzz of insects, the chirps of birds as they drove through the endless grass. Even if it would just be Ei driving and Iori holding on, pressed into his back.
For a private outing, a beach trip might be better, or a mountain hike. But Ei supposes a long drive will be good enough for now.
