Just the phenomenon that produces a rainbow makes her smile. The sign of the sun coming through after rain, especially after a long stormy period…
So she shouts happily upon seeing one through the window, before opening said window and allowing a fresh breeze to enter the room. The smell of earth and green is strong but it doesn’t bother Yuzuriha at all, especially when it helps clear out the smell of her earlier failed attempts at making lunch…
Yuzuriha hears giggles. She turns and finds Neri standing at the doorway. Even though meters separate them and Neri’s face looks as small as a thumb from this distance, Yuzuriha just knows that sweet smile is on Neri’s face, the one she often wears when Yuzuriha does something she thinks is cute.
“Just as you say.” Neri crosses the distance and Yuzuriha waits. She’s become better at waiting over the years, knowing that Neri will come. Knowing that it will be worth it.
“It’s nice.”
And if the two of them just stand by the window, fingers entwined, simply gazing at the rainbow in the distance without saying anything, well that’s because nothing else needs to be said.
