"Yeah. It's nothing."
Shiki had responded before turning his head, and he's not sure why he's surprised to see Arihiko when he had heard Arihiko's voice. Perhaps today isn't going to be simple because Arihiko is here, also not being delinquent for once.
"Hey, what's with that face?"
Shiki laughs. Just looking at Arihiko's concerned face makes him feel…grounded in a way. No matter how crazy things get, with his family, with this city, Arihiko is…always there when Shiki needs him.
Honestly Shiki feels like he takes advantage of Arihiko a lot. Especially recently, with all that vampire business…and his secret involvement. Having a friend who does as asked but doesn't ask too many questions is…
Maybe the bigger mystery is what does Shiki do for Arihiko? Besides make a good excuse to leave the classroom early? Or listen to some inane talk when Arihiko needs to vent? It can't just be as simple as Arihiko liking him…right?
"Tohno?"
"It really is good to be alive."
"Whatever you say. Hey, did you know…"
And Shiki liking Arihiko back? Perhaps that's simple all that's needed for a friendship to last.
