Short summary: The one thing that Susato can never win against is Haori’s passion.
It was a rather accidental start of this competition between Susato and Haori. Susato has never been competitive with Haori until now; they didn’t have that type of friendship, and by pursuing separate (although complimentary) fields of professional interest, they didn’t have to compete.
But Iris had innocently asked who fell in love with the other person first, and Haori insisted that she definitely, most certainly, fell in love with Susato first.
Susato had objected. She had loved Haori first, clearly, and the evidence was in how she did anything she could to stand up for Haori when Haori was unfairly accused of committing murder.
Haori countered that she had called Susato “dashing” and “handsome” before Susato had ever called Haori “beautiful”.
Susato countered that Haori had said that while Susato was dressed as “Ryutaro”, which was clearly different than being “Susato”.
Haori countered that by saying she almost slipped up saying Susato’s real name in court multiple times, so she definitely knew it was Susato being “dashing” and “handsome” across from her. Yes that outfit had done something, but it just confirmed something Haori was already feeling.
Iris was probably regretting her question… No it looks like she’s enjoying herself watching Susato get worked up! How callous of Iris, who should be Susato’s close friend, to just watch and…
Let Haori win. Because the one thing that Susato can never win against is Haori’s passion.
But Susato isn’t truly upset at the result. One of the many reasons she loves Haori is Haori’s passion, the way that Haori puts her all in each action, how much she feels and how much she gives what she feels to others, her kindness, her support, her love…
There’s nothing Susato appreciates more than the love Haori showers her, no matter what’s happened.
