Short summary: Asuka and Shiori make chocolate hearts for post-Valentine's day celebrating.
The actual Valentine’s day, or the 14th of February, is a bit crazy in Asuka and Shiori’s apartment, so they typically dedicate the day afterwards to making each other their Valentine’s chocolates, using leftover ingredients. This year Asuka decided to take on the challenge of making a chocolate heart for her girlfriend, but unlike Shiori’s, Asuka’s decorations look kind of…bad?
“Yours looks a lot better than mine,” Asuka says with a dry laugh as she wipes off some more of the excess icing. She’s definitely not as dexterous when it comes to writing or drawing with icing. Even sticking to writing in English didn’t help when all she can do is make uneven-looking letters.
“I think it looks cute,” Shiori replies as she finishes putting those tiny pearl candies at the center of her icing flowers.
“Like a little kid decorated it.”
Shiori giggles. “It’s the thought that counts!” And then sneakily fixes one of the chocolate chips so it is more in line with the others on the outside of the heart.
Asuka smiles and presses a quick kiss to Shiori’s mouth in thanks. Because the others will be expecting photos of these Valentine’s chocolate hearts, and Asuka doesn’t want to get too much ribbing from Kou and Rion. “And that’s why you’ll make a good elementary school teacher.”
Shiori laughs as she pulls away to put final touches on her chocolate heart. Besides having lovely pink icing flowers, she made the kanji for “love” in the center with slivered almonds. And the middle stroke was then lined with some sprinkles, to make it look like the kanji was partially made of Asuka’s Excellion Hearts. Compared to that, Asuka’s creation is… Well, it has a message at least: “Be my Valentine.”
It’ll all be fine. After they finish decorating, take photos to send to their friends, clean up the area, take a shower, have dinner… They finally share their chocolate hearts with each other.
“Mmm, I think I’ll be your Valentine after all,” Shiori says as she breaks the part containing “BE” off. “Since I love you and all.”
Asuka, meanwhile, has broken off the bottom part of her gifted chocolate heart, making sure not to destroy any of the decorated flowers yet. “And I’ll be yours too. Because I love you too.”
They share a smile before simultaneously putting chocolate in their mouths. Of course the chocolate tastes good; they have been together long enough to know what each other likes best. But maybe the occasion and the sentiments infused in the chocolates make them taste that little bit better.
And then, when they take the opportunity to meld the tastes together, mouth to mouth... Yes, this is the best way to enjoy chocolate hearts. As for next year… Asuka will think about that later. Right now she’ll focus on enjoying this special moment with her special person.
