Short summary: Yuki catches Rena in the act of drawing fanart.
As Rena tweaks the brush size in the paint program, she feels like it’s been too long since she’s had time to do something indulgent. Even though her embarrassing secret was out in the open and no one actually cared (they all thought it was cute and not shameful), Rena just hadn’t had time with all the other stuff going on. But everyone had agreed earlier that a rest day was sorely needed, and so here Rena is, taking advantage of that time.
She gets so absorbed in her work that she doesn’t hear the door open or the person approach her from behind, and definitely shrieks when she hears Yuki ask, “What’re you drawing?”
“Yuki?” Rena blushes as she quickly minimizes the program, turning around to face the grinning Yuki. “What are you doing here?”
“I wanted to see you and Ao said you might be in this room.” Yuki giggles. “I heard from the others that you could draw but wow, it’s so good!”
Rena feels her blush deepen. “It’s…nothing special.” Compared to what she’s seen other people do, her art is very amateurish. “And stop trying to look!” she exclaims when she sees Yuki grab for the mouse.
Yuki backs off but still looks at Rena with that sly grin. “They had tails like mermaids!”
Rena deflates a little. “Y-yeah…” She really didn’t want to show her indulgent stuff to Yuki of all people. But she knows Yuki won’t let this thing go, so she resolves to give Yuki some explanation, even if it is lame. “When Hinako talked about the play she did I was kind of…inspired?”
“That’s so cool!” Yuki’s compliment takes Rena by surprise. “Hey, draw me like a mermaid!”
“What?” Yuki wants Rena to draw…?
“It’d be kind of convenient, you know? Since we’re surrounded by water here, being a mermaid would make it easy for swimming and stuff.”
Or Yuki wants to just…fantasize? “Yuki, I’m not following you at all…”
“Or maybe something like the little mermaid? I can be the mermaid and you can be the Prince that finds me!”
Rena is still so lost, but she does her best to respond by working backwards. “Uh, I don’t like to draw real people… It’s kind of…easier to draw characters instead.”
Yuki laughs. “You’re so serious, Rena!” She leans in and up on her toes to kiss Rena on the cheek briefly. “But that’s why I like you.”
Rena blushes at the surprise kiss. “Hey!” she exclaims, but finds Yuki is already halfway out of the room. “Yuki?”
Did she act in a way that made Yuki mad? But Yuki’s smile suggests otherwise.
“I won’t bother you any longer,” Yuki says with a big smile. She makes a V-sign before adding, “But if you ever need a model, let me know. I’d be happy to help!”
She leaves, the door shutting behind her loudly. Rena exhales. Well, that was a bit much. But she is happy that Yuki likes her art. Even if it wasn’t any good.
“Thanks, Yuki.”
Maybe later she’ll draw Yuki as a mermaid as a thank-you gift. But drawing herself as a Prince…
