Mimi is taken aback when Lulua calls her “Master’s lover” to the various Chims in the atelier. The stranger thing is seeing all the Chims nod as if Lulua hasn’t just said something crazy. So of course Mimi has to protest Lulua’s words. Because the truth is…
“Really? It seems like that to me though.” Lulua frowns. “I think Totori would be really sad to know that you feel this way.”
“But…” Totori would be sad? Why? Mimi can’t think of a time Totori has seemed unhappy with her lately. “We’ve been like this for years.”
“Like lovers but not actually lovers?”
Why does Lulua keep saying “lovers”? “No, just friends!”
Piana sighs loudly. “Yep, she’d really be sad. Her ‘friend’ continues to be in denial.”
Mimi nearly trips at the sound of another voice. “Master, when did you get here?” Lulua asks, voicing Mimi’s same question.
Piana laughs. “Oh, I was here the whole time. Observing.”
“And so have I.”
Mimi’s jaw drops when she sees Totori step out from behind Piana. Oh no… Totori heard all of that?
“And I have to say…” Totori says as she walks closer to Mimi. “I guess I should have asked a long time ago.” She takes Mimi’s hands in hers. “Mimi, are we really just friends? Do you not… Do you not like me any more than that?”
Mimi blushes. “No, I…” She’s liked Totori for a long time. She just never thought it could be a thing!
Totori frowns. “You don’t…”
“I never really thought about it!” Mimi exclaims before Totori can pull her hands away. She grips them tightly. “I’ve liked you a lot but never thought…”
Totori blushes. “Oh.”
A few moments of silence pass before Piana coughs. “Okay, Lulua and I and the Chims will leave you be. For like… half an hour?”
And in an orderly fashion, Piana and Lulua and the Chims file out, leaving Mimi and Totori alone holding hands in the now quiet atelier.
“Uh…”
“Well…”
“Can I…”
“Yes?”
Mimi shakes her head. This is just going nowhere. “Oh, screw it!”
She tugs on Totori’s hands, pitching Totori forward and catching her in her arms. She wraps her arms around Totori’s back and holds Totori close.
“Let’s be lovers?”
She can feel Totori’s rapid heartbeat and it’s likely her own is acting the same way. But then Totori lets out a deep exhale and calms herself down.
“Yes,” she says with a smile. “Let’s start that, Mimi.”
And proceed to seal their first “official” day of their lovers status with a kiss.
