Short summary: Mimi visits Totori in the middle of a work day because she's been banned from work.
“Mimi? What’s up?”
Totori isn’t used to Mimi entering the Atelier as much during the middle of the day ever since Mimi’s patrol and other work has kept her often outside the city. Unfortunately Totori can’t leave her cauldron alone, but the synthesis she’s working on is just a supplement so she is comfortable enough to at least talk.
Mimi groans as she plops down onto the couch. “They banned me from work.”
“What?” Did something bad happen?
Mimi sighs. “Cordelia said I wasn’t allowed to take any more tasks. Sterk’s orders.”
Sterk’s orders? That surprises Totori and also informs her to the seriousness of the situation. “Well I think something’s wrong if even Sterk’s telling you to rest.” She’s already mentally calculating… yes, she can move that to another time. “Let me finish up quick and we can have tea together.”
“But I shouldn’t be taking you away from your work.”
Totori waves off Mimi’s protest. “Don’t worry, I was just trying something out. Rest is more important.”
“Totori…”
“I want you to rest too.” Totori really means it. It’s not right that she has only seen Mimi at night lately, tired and half-sprawled across the bed, and only gets to tuck Mimi in before she too is falling asleep. “You really have been working too much recently.”
“That’s…” Mimi catches on to Totori’s insistence and relents. “Okay, if you say so.”
Totori laughs and returns to swirling the mixture in her cauldron. She’s not sure what kind of supplement this will turn out to be, but she soon finds the resulting liquid has useless properties. Oh well, it had just been a curiosity. But when she turns around to tell that to Mimi, she finds that Mimi is already asleep.
“Rest well, Mimi,” Totori says as she approaches and puts a sheet over the sleeping Mimi. Totori then heads to the kitchen to make some tea to enjoy. Maybe if Mimi wakes up soon then they can share cookies, but if not, it’s most important that Mimi gets the rest she really needs.
