Short summary: Kiryu’s words about the failed proposals get to Saeko, get her thinking and realizing something she didn’t exactly want to.
“Damnit…”
Saeko curses to herself as she drinks another glass, alone with her thoughts hours after finishing up that business. Kiryu had told her to slow down and she had, but she just needs something to distract her from everything. Because she’s realizing something, finally, and it’s not great.
Because Kiryu’s prodding has made Saeko really think. She stubbornly believed that there was nothing good enough about the proposals the men gave her, even a guy like Ichiban who she does like a lot as a person. Because she only thinks of him as a friend! Because they steamroll forward and talk about all the pros of being married as if it’s a happy, harmonious life with no cons. With no conflicts? But wouldn’t that just be… Boring?
No, that’s not quite it. She did have a lot of fun with Ichiban during their date. It’s more like… If there is no conflict then there isn’t honesty? Because if you don’t let out your true feelings, your true frustrations, your true anger, then wouldn’t you just begin to resent the other person? Would you just end up changing yourself for the other person? Would you even still be you?
A brief image flickers in her mind of someone she is friends with but can bicker easily with. That other guy was scum so she is purposefully forgetting his name, so Saeko tries to think about Ichiban again. But the image doesn’t stabilize. She keeps thinking back on something purple, something pink. Someone with bright red lips.
Seong-hui…
“Damnit!”
What Saeko has actually learned from these proposals is that she would prefer to be partners with someone like Seong-hui. Someone she can bicker with at times and casually chat with at times, someone who is great and reliable and dependable but also... Seong-hui’s really attractive too. Saeko finds herself placing her hands on her cheeks to cover her blush. Damnit! Seong-hui hasn’t shown much interest in… Well, now that Saeko thinks about it, what is Seong-hui’s type? Saeko thinks they might have talked about it before but also Seong-hui might have evaded the question… Seong-hui seems to like Kiryu but it also seems to be hero worship so… Does Saeko have a chance… Wait, does she like women too?
Gah, this is so annoying! Kiryu’s words about Saeko getting older didn’t help at all either. Ugh, but he is right, even so… Next time when they all go out to a club of Nan-chan’s choosing, Saeko will definitely scope out Seong-hui’s preferences and after that, make a decision about all this…
