No new messages on her phone. Nothing from Minagi Shiori. All Kaoru can do is let out a deep sigh.
She feels restless but not because she has lost her direction and is struggling to find it. No, she perfectly knows what direction she wants to take. The problem is that she is stuck waiting. She can’t act until she receives the word.
Kaoru wishes Shiori would say “I want you to save me” or something like that. “Save me”, “help me”, even “come here” would work. Because Kaoru is ready to step in, sweep Shiori away from that house, away from that man. Kaoru is ready to do whatever she has to protect Shiori. But Shiori has to ask for it.
Every day that passes without a word from Shiori tears Kaoru’s heart a little bit more. Kaoru feels so useless. Yes, she’s not an adult but her feelings aren’t any less strong. But maybe because she’s not an adult yet, she’s not held back by those chains. She’s not influenced by set procedures or propriety. She’d ditch school, the city, the whole world even for Shiori.
Because Shiori did nothing wrong, nothing to deserve how much she is suffering and hurting herself. Meanwhile Kaoru has realized how blessed she has been throughout her life, a blessing she did nothing to deserve. She would include her chance meeting that night as a blessing, even if she didn’t know at the time…
Shiori, please… Please ask, and I’ll be there…
