Title: a little warmth in the cold

Fandom: Ys, specifically Ys 8
Relationship: Dana Iclucia/Olga
Wordcount: 350
Short summary: Olga and Dana work side by side doing their best, but the cold is neverending.
Another morning, another time Olga has woken up freezing and shivering. Without the sun, the temperatures are continuing to drop. How many times has she woken up to this feeling? How much time is there really left? There isn’t really any hope for survival, right?
Once on her feet, Olga looks for Dana first thing. Without Sarai they are the two leaders left. While Dana has been cursed, shunned, hated by their people because she is the Maiden who didn’t save them, she still has people looking to her for guidance and help when Olga isn’t around. It’s not fair that Dana has such a burden when they should all share it, so Olga, not caring so much about propriety as she did before, forces her way to Dana’s side. She’ll see Dana as much as she wants, to get what they can get done.
It’s really unfortunate that they only spend this much time together, a luxury lost once Dana became the Maiden and Olga the high priestess, because the world as they knew it has ended. Being close to Dana again means other thoughts come to mind sometimes, but Olga immediately brushes them aside. There’s no time or place to dally on those thoughts. There’s no privacy. People could come up to them at any time.
Their relationship… friendship or something deeper? It will probably end in this half-baked manner, of deep feelings never explored. She can’t say the realization came too late when there was never time in the first place, right?
Why waste it on words when you can just stand close together, when you can express how you feel through actions? Olga wouldn’t want to hear those words anyway. Her mind is 100% about the people they serve. She’d scold Dana if she heard Dana say something that suggested she wasn’t also thinking 100% about their people, their future.
But she’ll let Dana stand close, lean against her, hold her hand. She doubts anyone really cares at this point. It’s cold, after all. Everyone can use a little more warmth, and some last pleasant memories...
