It took a few weeks for Shiki to decide what he would gift Hisui on this day, but thankfully he learned a few months ago what her birth date was and had time to prepare. He didn’t want to gift something too extravagant, but the small cake and the small notebook he takes out for Hisui are both custom items. It might have made them a little expensive, but for Hisui…
“Shiki-sama…”
Hisui takes the objects into her hands slowly and carefully, her surprise evident. Shiki presses onward.
“Of course I’ve learned when your birthday is. From the records.”
“Then… Nanaya also…”
Shiki smiles. He already knows what to say, having anticipated that question. “Don’t worry. I also got her something. Nothing too much, though.”
He cares for Nanaya too, of course, but Hisui is the one he loves. Hisui, who is frowning still…
“But… for me, you didn’t need to…”
You didn’t need to get me anything is probably what she is thinking. Shiki shakes his head.
“But I want to. I want to treat my beloved well. Because it makes me happy to see you smile.”
It’s more declarative than he normally is regarding his feelings, but it is worth it. Hisui blushes but also looks at Shiki finally with a smile, her beautiful smile.
“Thank you, Shiki-sama.”
It might be Hisui’s birthday today, but Shiki thinks the gift he received in return might be better.
