Short summary: Geis is still new to this romance stuff, but it's okay if Adol just wants to kiss him sweetly while they are on break.
“Geis.”
Geis opens his eyes at the sound of his name being spoken by his companion and blinks twice. It’s midday, the area around them is quiet as they have taken a break in the shade of a large tree. Well, at least Geis is using the tree as resting support. Adol, meanwhile, seems to have moved around a bunch since Geis last checked and now hovers over him.
“Hmm?” Geis murmurs, caught in Adol’s gaze.
“Are you tired?”
“Not really.” Adol gives him a doubtful look. Okay, so Geis had closed his eyes for a bit and lost track of where he was. But it isn’t like he had been so gone that he would have been unprepared for a sudden strike from an enemy. Besides…not that he would ever say it out loud, but Adol is here so Geis feels safe. And it’s kind of nice to just sit and relax after running around these past few days, especially with Dogi around being his loud usual self.
“Why?” Geis wonders. Why did Adol ask if he was going to doubt Geis’ answer?
“Okay,” Adol answers. Geis doesn’t understand what Adol means by that. How does that even answer Geis’ question? Unless Geis had momentarily spaced out, but he is pretty sure he’s been paying attention. Or else he would have slapped away the hand that has moved to cup his face, would have shoved Adol away before his mouth could come close and…
“A…”
Adol takes Geis’ words, stops them with his own lips pressing against Geis’. Geis inadvertently parts his lips more, still awkward at this kissing business, and is relieved when Adol just continues to kiss him gently, tenderly. Geis would probably be the laughingstock among his old mercenary buddies if they saw him like this, so inexperienced and clumsy still with bits of affection, but… Geis likes this. He loves this, not being in a rush, not needing to go anywhere. He reaches out towards Adol’s waist to hold onto it lightly, to show that Adol what he’s always bad at saying with words.
After a minute Adol pulls back and gives Geis a blinding smile. Geis doesn’t need to hear or say anything; he can already imagine a conversation and its conclusion. Just from the way those eyes are twinkling, Geis knows if he asked why Adol wanted to kiss him, Adol would just say he wanted to. Because adventurers like Adol do what they want: save people left and right, accidentally seduce women on every continent, decide for some reason that a gruff black-haired ex-mercenary is the one worth pursuing instead… Geis smiles softly. Adol is an idiot; spending more time with him hasn’t changed Geis’ assessment on that front. But maybe Geis is realizing he’s an idiot too and that it’s not actually a problem.
“Okay,” he says. It prompts a moment of confusion from Adol, but Adol recovers quickly as soon as Geis moves his other hand to Adol’s neck. Adol’s eyes are already closed by the time Geis closes the distance between their mouths again, proving to Adol that he’s not tired, for one. But also there are many other things he’s saying okay to. Okay to working together, okay to traveling together, okay to this romantic relationship, okay to wasting more of today on kisses… Geis doesn’t know if Adol knows everything that Geis is saying yet, through terse words, through clumsy kisses, but that’s okay too. They have time to figure it out together…eventually.
