Short summary: Some things about them are the same. Some things are different. Rosa’s happy with what they have right now, what is theirs.
“Ha… Ha…”
“Cure!”
Without hesitation, Rosa casts white magic on the two exhausted men who were dueling in front of here just mere moments before. Cecil and Kain may be full-grown adult men but if she closes her eyes, she can easily imagine two youngsters in their place, in the same position after the same activity, breathing just as heavily. And she, a young girl, with a serious expression, concentrating and casting the same spell to patch up their wounds.
Yes, the three of them may be older now, decades older now, but their methods of destressing really haven’t changed much. Cecil and Kain fight to burn off their excess energy and Rosa refocuses her excess energy into healing them afterwards. Of course there is a secondary benefit. Cecil and Kain are fighters so their duel is training. Rosa is a healer so casting spells is practice. But at this age, those are flimsy excuses. Most of Cecil’s “fights” occur in the audience chamber, verbal “spars” against ministers or commanders as they make petitions or requests. Most of Kain’s “fights” occur in the training fields as he prepares young soldiers ready for service to the kingdom. Most of Rosa’s “magic-casting” is verbal support of Cecil’s words as Queen to his King.
There are some things that starkly contrast with their childhood days. Three separate rooms for sleeping have become one. Three separate beds have become one. Three separate bodies come together and join as one.
The way they talk to each other is different (softer, gentler). The way they reach out, hold on to each other is different (stronger, tighter). The way they stand up, sit down, lean against, lay next to each other is different (closer, warmer).
Rosa is happy that some things have stayed the same. She’s happy that Cecil and Kain are both still in her life, as vibrant as ever. She’s happy that they are best friends and trust each other once more. She’s happy that she is not involved directly in their duels but can watch over them from the side.
But she’s happy that some things have changed. She’s happy that Cecil and Kain will kiss each other after a duel concludes before coming to her and kissing her as well. She’s happy that they all take turns being in the middle of the bed being embraced on both sides. She’s happy that there is more openness between all three of them, about their fears and insecurities and jealousies.
She won’t say everything that has happened to them is good or bad, that every change that has happened is good or bad. But she will say that she’s satisfied with how things are right now. The highs of jubilation or excitement are fleeting but this feeling of contentment has stayed. The three of them have built a home full of love. It may be just a secret of their royal bedchamber, but even so Rosa wouldn’t trade it for anything else in the world.
