Short summary: Audrey and Marion visit Marion’s home for the first time, one summer.
“Come in, come in! We got plenty of comfy seats! Oh, what would you like to drink? Are you hungry? We can bring out the cookies—”
“Dad, you’re overwhelming her! Just let us sit down first, alright?”
“But…”
Audrey lets Marion take the lead, her face flushed at all the enthusiasm on display. Audrey knew that Marion’s family was excited about meeting her, but the genuine levels of warmth and enthusiasm that Marion’s dads welcome Audrey with is still surprising.
“Thank you. I’m perfectly alright. Please take your time.”
Unfortunately Audrey and Marion will only be at Marion’s hometown for a week of the summer because of work that they’ll need to return to, but this trip is well overdue. School kept them busy but knowing Marion, her dads likely received many letters about Audrey. Audrey knows a decent amount about Marion’s dads but it’s always different when meeting the actual people. Like no matter how hard Audrey tries to describe Marion to others, it just never portrays Marion quite right. Marion is just more than a bunch of words, she’s amazing, wonderful, perfect…
“You alright there, Audrey?”
Audrey blushes once more realizing she has been lost in thought about the person looking upon her in concern. “Ah, yes. I think I’d like some water.”
“With ice?”
“Yes please.”
The one Marion calls “Dad” leaves to fetch a glass while Marion lets out a giggle. “Too hot for you right now?”
Audrey just smiles back. Marion isn’t wrong whichever way she chooses to mean…
“Well, if it ever gets too much, let me know, alright?” Marion says this quietly so her dads won’t overhear. “I’ll get them to back off.”
“No,” Audrey states loud and clear. “I love this. Thank you for taking me here.”
Marion grins. “No problem!”
