Short summary: Seijuurou finds Chihiro upset over something that happened at the end of a light novel series and provides some comfort to Chihiro in his own way.

Seijuurou walks up the stairs in a good mood after a nice catch-up session with Kuroko and friends, but that instantly disappears upon opening the door. It’s too quiet inside their apartment for a Sunday afternoon, especially if the lights are on and Chihiro’s favorite sneakers are still on top of the shoe rack. Seijuurou bites his lower lip, counts to 5, and calls out loudly.

“I’m home.” He crosses his arms and waits. He’s not here to scare Chihiro.

Half a minute later, a reply comes from the lump on the sofa. “…Welcome back.”

Ah, Seijuurou could have realized that earlier; the blankets they possess are not that big. While Chihiro does have the habit of wrapping himself up in a blanket when he gets cozy with a book, usually he’s visible. If he was hiding himself with a blanket…

“Is everything alright?”

Chihiro shakes his head and sighs. “It’s stupid.”

The reading Chihiro had gotten cozy with becomes obvious once Seijuurou sees the cover of the thin book. It’s the final volume of the “fantasy yuri isekai” series, whatever that combination of words means. All Seijuurou knows is that at some point two women kiss and Chihiro maintains that it is not the only reason he started reading it (but maybe one of the reasons?).

More importantly, Chihiro was distressed enough to hide in a blanket. It means Seijuurou should do something about that. He crosses the room until he’s a meter away from Chihiro and opens his arms wide.

“Come here,” Seijuurou commands. Chihiro quirks a brow but nevertheless obeys, standing up from the sofa and closing the distance. As soon as Seijuurou can put his arms around Chihiro, he does so, pulling Chihiro into a secure embrace.

“What are you doing?” Chihiro mumbles into Seijuurou’s hair.

Seijuurou pats Chihiro’s back lightly, three times. “I’m comforting you.”

Chihiro lowers his head and emits a groan into the left side of Seijuurou’s neck. “You’re making this worse.”

Seijuurou chuckles. “But you’re holding me tighter.” He knows Chihiro is embarrassed.

“It’s better than looking at your face.” Possibly while repositioning himself in Seijuurou’s embrace, Chihiro had found balance by wrapping his arms around Seijuurou in return. But instead of denying Seijuurou’s words or pulling away, Chihiro tightens his arms around Seijuurou. “Shit, I’m really mad about it, even though it doesn’t matter…”

Seijuurou pats Chihiro’s back a few times more while wondering just what happened in the ending to that series that made Chihiro so upset. He doesn’t know if Chihiro’s upset because of a character suddenly acting differently or if there was some event in the ending that took Chihiro by unpleasant surprise, which could either be something too tragic or too happy depending on the context. Although regardless of the cause…

“It’s alright. You’re still the guy I met on the rooftop 10 years ago.” Chihiro is Chihiro. Seijuurou can’t help but think about those meetings fondly, when Chihiro was constantly holding a book with a brightly colored female character on the cover. Sometimes Chihiro got so lost in his reading that his grumbling was audible and Seijuurou would just observe him… It’s too bad this apartment complex doesn’t have a nice rooftop suitable for reading.

Seijuurou’s musings are broken when Chihiro releases his hold on Seijuurou. However he doesn’t step away. Instead he sighs. “Your means of comfort are still weird as ever.”

And then, lifting his head so he can look Seijuurou in the eye, he gives Seijuurou a smile and adds, “Thanks, Sei.”

Any words Seijuurou was going to say disappear completely from his tongue. His heart always softens a bit when Chihiro calls him by that nickname, because it’s always said so gently. He’s not sure if he wants to kiss Chihiro or hug Chihiro tighter (or both?). Ultimately it doesn’t matter when Chihiro makes the decision for him.

“She should have done this,” is what Chihiro mumbles before pressing his lips against Seijuurou’s. Seijuurou lets Chihiro set the tone of the kiss; when it merely stays a press of lips against lips, Seijuurou enjoys its sweetness for what it is. Even if this was not what Seijuurou expected upon returning home from his friends’ meetup, to turn Chihiro’s mood back around is never a bad thing…

But he still wonders… Was the ending of the series too tragic then? If Chihiro wants a happy ending, well… He’ll probably find someone’s rendition of that on the Internet soon enough. Or Seijuurou can (he swears to) give Chihiro a happy ending in real life, where it really does matter…
