Short summary: 5 purchases Akashi makes for Mayuzumi because he was thinking of Mayuzumi, but they aren’t quite normal gifts…
1.
“Happy anniversary. I got this for you, since you don’t have a watch.”
Chihiro knows today is their anniversary. He had guessed that Seijuurou would buy him a gift. But he didn’t think it would be something useless.
“Why would I want a watch?” Chihiro takes out his smart phone from his pocket just to show what’s been working for him. The idea of having another thing to carry and worry about annoys him.
Seijuurou smiles. “It’s simple and rather inconspicuous. It made me think of you.”
Chihiro’s eyes narrow. That’s… a borderline insult, right? It’s only his history of being a “Shadow” that makes Chihiro second-guess. Because basketball is still a primary thought in Seijuurou’s mind even though they both stopped playing on teams over 5 years ago, with their busy work schedules and all. Seijuurou gets sentimental even about things from long ago, so…
“Let me put it on you,” Seijuurou finally says when he realizes Chihiro won’t say anything. He dangles the watch above Chihiro’s left arm.
“Fine.” Chihiro presents his wrist and allows Seijuurou to put the watch on him. Well, at least it is thin and light. “Inconspicuous” indeed…
“Thanks, I guess.”
“You’re welcome, Chihiro.”
2.
“Shinkansen tickets to Tokyo? For Saturday?”
Chihiro had automatically accepted the tickets that Seijuurou handed over before he checked the details, thinking they were for the scheduled trip to Tokyo for a concert in 3 weeks. Not for this weekend.
Seijuurou smiles. “I saw that there will be a convention. The advertisements made me think of you.”
“If I was going to that convention, I would have told you about it months ago.” Chihiro sighs. “There’s no way to get tickets or a good hotel now.”
Seijuurou frowns. “Why would you need a hotel? We can just stay at the compound.”
Chihiro laughs. “That’s a pain in the ass commute. Not that I would be able to get into the convention as I said earlier.”
Seijuurou purses his lips. “So you don’t want to go to Tokyo?”
Is there another reason Seijuurou wants to go to Tokyo this weekend? Chihiro shakes his head. “Tokyo is fine. I could look for some secondhand goods.”
“Good. I want to travel with you.”
Chihiro raises an eyebrow. “A Shinkansen ride is not much travel compared to what you usually…”
Seijuurou interrupts Chihiro with a kiss. “With you.”
Oh. Well, that makes a difference.
3.
“Here. I saw this on my way home. It made me think of you.”
Chihiro looks at the item dropped into his lap and scowls. “What the hell. This is the wrong girl.”
Seijuurou smirks. “Of course, since you want to buy the other one yourself.”
Seijuurou is right, but why did he use that knowledge for this? Chihiro sighs loudly. “Well, I don’t want this in our house. She ruins the balance.”
Thus Chihiro is definitely going to get rid of this figure. Hmm, he’s curious how much it sells for online…
Seijuurou, meanwhile, muses, “I did notice that a lot of your favorite characters have a similar…”
“Oh, this sells for a good price.” Chihiro counts the digits twice to be sure. “How much did you pay for this?”
“You are going to sell it?”
Chihiro raises an eyebrow. Seijuurou is pouting; is he upset? Will Chihiro need to console Seijuurou over this later?
“Yeah. This will be more than enough money to buy the figure I actually want.” Then a thought occurs to him. “Wait, that means the other girl is more popular, damnit.”
When Seijuurou bursts into laughter, Chihiro decides Seijuurou needs no consoling after all.
4.
“So I was with Kuroko earlier…” Seijuurou pauses upon seeing Chihiro’s eyes narrow, “and we stopped at a bookstore. I asked him about what he was reading lately and…”
“Is this why you have this?” Chihiro interrupts brusquely. He will admit that Kuroko is a good friend for Seijuurou, but it doesn’t change the fact that Kuroko will never be a good friend for him.
Seijuurou smiles. “It made me think of you.”
Chihiro doesn’t. “Are you actively trying to make me angry?”
Seijuurou chuckles. “It’s good to diversify what you read, you know.”
“I have read it. I hated it. I won’t read it again.” Chihiro punctuates each sentence with more and more annoyance. By the end Seijuurou seems taken aback.
“Oh, sorry.” Seijuurou looks truly apologetic. “I really did want to get you a nice gift.”
But doesn’t Seijuurou remember that Chihiro and Kuroko’s tastes in literature are just as incompatible as their styles of basketball?
“You were laughing about this, though.” When Chihiro’s pointed response makes Seijuurou flinch, Chihiro steps back. “Don’t worry, I’ll just give it to my coworker.”
Seijuurou exhales in relief and Chihiro realizes he should have been nicer about this… situation. Next time…
5.
“This is for you. The color… It made me think of you.”
Hold on. Seijuurou returns from work with a small jewelry box… Is it some kind of anniversary? Milestone? Chihiro is too flustered to figure this out.
“Are you just… giving me this?” He honestly still can’t believe what he’s seeing. A damn expensive-looking silver ring.
Seijuurou’s hand shakes. “Do you… not like this? I can get a different design.”
“It’s more that… Why?”
Chihiro doesn’t wear jewelry, except for that watch. Which is inconspicuous. This ring is the complete opposite.
“Why what?” Seijuurou bites his lip. Damn, is he nervous?
“You know how this looks.” Chihiro is nervous too. “Do I have to say it?” He doesn’t want to be wrong.
Seijuurou takes a deep breath. “I love you.” The ring still sits in the box, though.
Chihiro huffs. Fine, he’ll say it. “Is this a proposal or not?”
Seijuurou tries to smirk. It looks really awkward. “Depends on whether you put this ring on your fourth finger or not.”
“I’ll… try, I guess. But if it doesn’t fit, I’ll put it on my pinky.”
Chihiro is still flustered as he takes the ring. Damn, Seijuurou had to just… But then again, Chihiro can’t imagine how he would have proposed in return so… Well, it’s better to just get this all over with. If it doesn’t fit, they can both laugh it off and then Chihiro can go with Seijuurou to the store to get the correct thing… Oh. It does fit. It looks…
“Chihiro?”
“You damned smartass,” Chihiro mutters as he closes the distance between their mouths. His lover… no, fiancé? Anyway, Seijuurou really played himself this time. But Chihiro’s heart won’t stop fluttering. He’s overjoyed. To think this day would come…
“I love you too, Seijuurou.”
