Short summary: When those words come from Shinonome, Yuki knows they are honest.
“Not bad.”
“You too.”
Yuki gives Shinonome a small smile. If those words had come from one of the others, Yuki wouldn’t necessarily trust them, but she knows Shinonome is giving her an honest assessment. It doesn’t make her…happy…does it? She feels a burst of satisfaction in her heart though.
Because Yuki has her reputation for being irritable and quick-tempered, unruly and brash. Her temper gets her in more trouble than she wants, although it is satisfying to punch and kick the shit out of someone or something that irritates her. She’s “good” at fighting as long as she can be fast and aggressive; she doesn’t know how to hold back. Shinonome is her complete opposite in this; she has a slow, simmering fury that cuts like a knife. Or pierces like a bullet, based on that one time when she shot Ida… So Yuki thought perhaps at some point, Shinonome’s irritation with her would come out in some way. Shinonome’s not particularly…nice…to anyone, except maybe that Ei guy.
“For you.”
“Ah, thanks.”
Yuki isn’t sure what to do besides open the drink that Shinonome hands over. Is Shinonome being nice to her…as a senior? Or as something more?
She takes a gulp of the Hi-C and winces. Why does it seem too sweet right now?
(Maybe because she does want it to mean something more…)
