Short summary: It takes a while for Hiori to like sunflowers again.
They said sunflowers suited her, and there was a time Hiori would smile if someone told her that. And then that happened.
For a while, after Uta had been summoned into their tiny world, Hiori had avoided the sunflowers. When she stayed away from the sunflowers, she could separate the Uta that was here in this world, the shy and humble and gentle Uta without all her memories, from the cruel and biting Uta of the past trauma.
But of course avoiding the problem wasn’t a permanent solution. Uta couldn’t remain without her memories forever. They needed her power, just like everyone else’s. They needed her to see and accept them. They needed Hiori to see and accept them as well.
And maybe, through that process, through looking at things from another viewpoint, Hiori began to understand. Began to reach out. Began to move forward.
Step by step. Hand in hand.
Or maybe she just tackled Uta after a while because that’s even easier to do.
Well, it’s taken her a long time to be okay seeing Uta next to the sunflowers. But Hiori thinks the time wasn’t all wasted. She can face Uta directly and freely, with a genuine smile. Laugh when Uta blushes, and blush when Uta smiles…
And behind them, the sunflowers will stand tall, strong and brilliantly yellow.
